Uruguayan footballer Santiago García died on Saturday. According to Argentine media, he was found dead in his apartment in Mendoza and confirmed to have committed suicide. Godoy's striker was 30 years old and on psychiatric treatment, it was reported.
'There are no words or comfort. Great pain from the death of one of the most popular players and fans in National's recent history. We all cried for El Morro'. That was the national football club's message when the news broke.
The Uruguayan Football Association also expressed its condolences for the player's death: 'We deeply regret and shock the death of Uruguayan player Santiago Damián García. Our deepest condolences to your family and friends."
García played for the losers of the Montevideo National, from where he passed to Atlético Paranaense. After a campaign in Brazil, he went to Turkish football and played for Kasimpasa. In 2013 he returned to Nacional, where there was only one tournament, before joining River Plate. Since 2016 he has been in Mendoza and played for Godoy Cruz.
